Rehabmart offers many different types of school furniture at discount prices. Visit our school desk page to view the different products we have to offer!

Usually made of metal tubing frames with laminated wood tops and molded plastic seats, school furniture is pretty utilitarian. Typical school seating can pose accessibility challenges for kids with special needs since it can’t be adjusted to accommodate wheelchairs or be adapted for the kids who need additional support to stay comfortably upright when seated.

Combining adaptability with an attractive appearance are the school desks and chairs from TherAdapt. They can be adjusted without tools and their optional accessories allow them to meet the needs of each user with ease.

For students with mild to moderate physical challenges, the TherAdapt School Chair provides support needed for proper positioning thanks to its standard adjustable back and pelvic belt. Its modular design allows it to be adjusted to the unique needs of the user and is attractive enough to compliment the decor of a home environment as well as a classroom. It comes in three widths and nine sizes with steel reinforcements beneath the seats of the large and extra-large models.  The optional accessories include pommels for properly positioning the thighs; chest harnesses; a low or high foot rest; wooden tray for use as both a work surface and to help with stability; a butterfly kit to provide anterior chest support; adjustable arm rests to help with balance when standing up or sitting down; side pads; and a replacement 10-degree anterior angle seat to promote proper spinal alignment and anterior pelvic tilt, ensuring comfortable posture as well as comfortable transfers.    The padded seat and side pads are made of an easy-to-clean material that just needs a spray of mild cleaner and a wipe with a soft cloth.

The TherAdapt School Desk may be used with a wheelchair or with any of the chairs in the Rehabmart catalog, as well as chairs that may already be in the home or classroom. It comes in two sizes and two heights with a choice of two or three cubby holes for storage of paper, crayons, and other school supplies. The cubbies may be mounted on the right or left depending on the user’s needs and preference. The desk top is large enough to accommodate a full-sized monitor and keyboard or other communication device with plenty of room for notebooks and pens for making notes. The height is adjustable, so there’s no need to worry about having to raise a chair to allow the student to reach the desk top comfortably.

Both units may require some light assembly and adjustment, but those are easily completed without tools.

The TherAdapt School Desk and School Chair are both suitable for special needs classrooms, inclusive classrooms, learning centers and residential facilities, as well as for study areas in private residences. They are ideal for students living with neuromuscular conditions such as cerebral palsy, musculoskeletal issues such as muscular dystrophy, some forms of developmental disability, or spinal cord injuries. Ensuring safe, comfortable seating helps the students stay focused, supporting them in their efforts to live up to their full potential, along with the boosts in self confidence and esteem that go along with academic success.
