Being able to grasp something or to hold something in your hand is common and somewhat unique.  The human hand is an incredible apparatus.  The uncountable number of movements combined with dexterity and pressure of touch is simply a working miracle of wonderment, yet it is as common as blinking an eye for most people.  For most able-bodied people, the hands are the focal point of their whole life.  Just about everything done in one’s life is done with the hands involved.  The ability to grasp, hold, pull, push, write, love, catch, twirl, throw, type, fight,  paint, feel, eat, create art and music, etc. is primarily accomplished with the hands.

Yet sometimes the hands become weak and unable to work as well as they once have done.  The ability to lift an object may become more difficult due to weakness in the fingers or wrist.  The opportunity to create art or to assist a child in dressing themselves or even to pick up a fork and use it to eat food can become problematic.  As with many other organs and workings of the human body, the hands and wrists also may become weak with age or by accident.  Rehabmart has a couple of new items that can assist those with weakened hands to welcome back strength and hand maneuverability once again.

The Med4orce Strength Grip is a device that is used to improve manual dexterity and hand strength as a physical therapy and rehabilitation tool.  The Med4orce Strength Grip has a patented “Inner-Core” technology that allows four different resistance levels for a wide variety of simple exercises for the forearms, wrists, hand and fingers.  Stronger hands will bring back benefits to many areas of a person’s life, from making everyday household chores easier, to a more confident handshake, to excelling in competitive sports like bowling and softball.

The strength grip is easy to use in any location such as the office, home, hospital or clinic, or just about anywhere else this small, purse-size product can go.  The Med4orce grips are latex free and are made with the same thermal plastic resin that is used in a wide variety of medical products and devices.  The grips come in four levels of resistance that best fit your lifestyle and goals.  The Med4orce Ultra Soft Grip is ideal for people who are attempting to regain strength and mobility of hand dexterity for everyday tasks.  The Med4orce Soft Grip can be used to help rebuild finger, wrist, hand and forearm strength and also to help with regaining flexibility into the hand.  The Med4orce Medium Grip is used to assist with maintaining the full flexibility in the hand, fingers, and wrist. And the Med4orce Stiff Grip is used for an advanced strength workout and is ideal for individuals that would like to continue to build the hand, wrist and forearm strength.

Shove-a-lugs Grip Attachments are for wheelchair bound people to use the palms of their hands to push their wheelchair rather than gripping the slim and smooth surface of the wheel-ring at an awkward wrist angle.  This can be very important for people in wheelchairs that have weak, deformed, or arthritic hands and wrists.  When using Shove-a-lugs, no gripping of the wheel-ring or the dirty and abrasive wheelchair wheel itself is needed because a person can use the heels of their hands to push forward on the wheels. This also keeps the wrist in a more anatomically appropriate position which helps prevent ulnar deviation.

These easy to install attachments are designed with a rounded palm contact area which helps distribute the pressure on the palm during the push phase, minimizing pressure at any given point.  The rounded surface additionally makes it easier to be gripped by the fingers for easier stopping or propelling in reverse and there are no angles, seams, or crevices where a fingernail or hand jewelry could get stuck in.  Being able to move about the home or work environment more easily and painlessly will enhance a person’s activity level, quality of life, and sense of independence.  Shove-a-lugs can be used on all standard wheelchair hand rims.

Just about everybody knows someone who has strength problems with their hands and wrists due to injury or aging but this problem might be able to be slowed or even reversed to some degree with exercise or better ways to accomplish tasks with less pain.  Sometimes the simplest way or technique is the best way to accomplish a task and these two products offered by Rehabmart are both simple and smart ways to overcome some difficulties in this thing called life.
