In the last few years, the importance of around-the-clock proper positioning and good posture has grown in recognition. For children, it supports optimal skeletal system development and for people of all ages leads to greater comfort and improved health. When a person is awake, he or she is aware of position, and can adjust it for maximum comfort by adjusting the sitting position or moving a pillow or prop to help achieve it. During the hours of sleep, however, it's easy to slip into an uncomfortable position, impacting the quality of one's rest.
With the help of optional supports installed from the top side of the mattress, the user can be repositioned while still in bed. The supports use Glide-lock fasteners which simply snap into place without the noise of hook and loop fixings or the need for pumps or compressors. Just push them into the channels between the mattress tubes and you're done. The supports are made from molded foam and are high enough to prevent the user from draping extremities over their tops as a result of normal sleep movements. Options include a side-lying board to keep hips neutral or abducted; leg supports; adjustable angle footrests; and support pads to offer stability to the head and neck or allow for extra leverage during self-transfers to chairs or wheelchairs. A doctor or physical therapist can work with the user and the caregiver to determine the best arrangement of the supports for optimal comfort and therapeutic value.
Another optional feature is a set of hoops that snap into the base and hold the bedcovers off the legs to prevent the sleeper from getting tangled in them during nocturnal movements and interfering with the ability to maintain optimal positioning while sleeping.
