February is National Children's Dental Health Month

Rehabmart would like to remind everyone that February is National Children's Dental Health Month (NCDHM).  This is the perfect time to raise awareness about the importance of oral health and encourage a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums. As many of us older adults know from firsthand experience, taking care of your teeth early on in life gives you a tremendous advantage to healthier teeth in your middle and older age.  Developing good oral health habits at an early age and scheduling regular dental visits helps children to have a much higher chance for maintaining those good habits all through their lifetime.

NCDHM materials and messages have reached millions of people in communities across the country, not just in February, but all year long. Whether you're a member of a dental team, a teacher or a parent, the American Dental Association (ADA) has a multitude of free online resources that can help you with oral health presentations, ideas for the classroom, and activity and coloring sheets that can be used as handouts.  All of these resources are designed to get kids of all ages excited about taking care of their teeth and your kids will have fun as they learn about the importance of dental health.

The ADA also sponsors Give Kids a Smile (GKAS), an outreach program that provides free oral health care services to children from low-income families across the country.  Thousands of the nation's dedicated dentists and their dental team members participate to make this program successful every year. While most will offer these services on the first Friday in February, other dentists sometimes choose different dates that are more convenient for their schedules.  GKAS enhances the oral health of large numbers of children in need and also highlights for policy makers the ongoing challenges that disadvantaged families face in finding affordable dental care.

The refreshing and pleasant lemon taste stimulates saliva flow, while the glycerin lubricates and softens oral tissues. For those children who need stimulation and desensitization of oral tissues, Rehabmart recommends the latex-free Rubber Massage Brushes, which are also ideal for oral motor facilitation.

The ACT Anticavity SpongeBob or iCarly Rinses are perfect for any children over 6 years of age, and will help get them excited and involved about their own dental care. These alcohol-free fluoride rinses are proven effective in reducing children's cavities up to 40% more than just brushing with a fluoride toothpaste alone, while they also strengthen teeth.  Your kids will love the Ocean Berry and iBerry Blast flavors, too! Rehabmart also carries the ACT Anticavity Mouth Rinses for adults and children in delicious and refreshing flavors of Mint, Cinnamon, or just about every kid's favorite, Bubble Gum. Besides fighting cavities, all of the ACT rinses have been clinically proven to strengthen tooth enamel, protect the roots of adult teeth and to reverse 'white spots' (decalcification) on teeth caused by braces and other orthodontic appliances.

Tell every kid you know to "Rock Your Smile" in February by celebrating National Children's Dental Health Month.  The benefits of good oral health and oral hygiene habits are priceless and might save your child from misery and dentures when she gets older. Dental problems often cause serious problems in the rest of the body, too, and can even lead to death.  Teach your children now about the importance of taking care of their teeth and you will instill a healthy smile that will last them a lifetime.
