June is Men's Health Month

In combination with a Congressional health education program, Men's Health Month is celebrated every June across the country with screenings, health fairs, media appearances, and other health education and outreach activities.  According to the Men's Health Network, which is a member of the Combined Federal Health Campaign, the purpose of Men's Health Month is to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys. This month gives health care providers, public policy makers, the media, and individuals an opportunity to encourage men and boys to seek regular medical advice and early treatment for disease and injury. The response has been overwhelming with thousands of awareness activities in the USA and around the globe.

The National Institute of Health Men's Health category offers a plethora of resources for all kinds of men's health issues, from cardiovascular disease to sexual issues to Athlete's Foot.  One of the most prevalent health issues for men are prostate problems.  Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among men.  Men in their early thirties and forties rarely develop prostate cancer, but the incidence increases steadily after the age of fifty.  Thankfully, because of awareness campaigns such as Men's Health Month, prostate cancer deaths have been declining for the past several years, which many experts believe to be the result of better screening and earlier diagnosis.

Younger men are not without their own prostate problems.  According to the National Kidney and Urologic Diseases Information Clearinghouse, the most common prostate problem in men under fifty is prostatitis, meaning the prostate is inflamed.  This is sometimes caused by bacteria, but can also indicate other conditions such as kidney stones or cancer.  Men over fifty years of age can also have prostate problems without cancer, such as benign prostatic hyperplasia, also known as BPH.  As men get older, their prostate keeps growing and this condition is also referred to as prostate enlargement.  BPH can cause symptoms such as a frequent and urgent need to urinate, trouble starting a urine stream, a weak stream of urine, the feeling that you still have to urinate even when you have just finished and small amounts of blood in your urine.

Fortunately, Rehabmart offers a wide variety of incontinence products intended just for men.  No matter what kinds of prostate or urinary problems you may be experiencing, Rehabmart can help you find the perfect product fit for you.  For example, you may want to check out the Baumrucker Incontinence Clamp which is used by many men for incontinent dripping and/or after prostate cancer.

The user simply places his penis between the two foam pads and the hinged clamp is comfortably squeezed shut.  It provides a closing pressure on the urethra, which is close to the bottom of the penis and this stops the dripping.

For men with light to moderate urinary incontinence, Tena Pad For Men are a great option.  Designed especially for men, the innovative anatomical design provides great comfort and discretion.  These pads provide improved absorption along with pH-balanced OdaSorb Plus to help control odor and can be worn with regular, close-fitting underwear.

The stay-in-place adhesive strip helps to keep the pad in the right spot and the pads are individually wrapped for the convenience of travel and discreet disposal.  These pads are also used by men with post-prostate surgery incontinence.

Another great incontinence product for men is the HealthDri Men's Heavy Briefs.  This single-piece garment offers a money-saving and environmentally sound alternative to disposables as it is washable over 300 times.  The patented moisture management control panel pulls moisture away from the body and also protects outer clothing.

"Most men probably don't like thinking about their prostates, but it's worth doing once in a while", says the Director's Office at the National Institute of Health.  "The good news is that most prostate conditions can be successfully treated.  See your doctor right away if something doesn't seem right to you down there. And if you can't urinate at all, get medical help immediately."

Early detection and treatment is the key to your good health and a long, happy life.
