Since the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was passed by the United States Congress in 1991, disabled Americans have had an easier time gaining access to public buildings such as grocery stores, malls, entertainment venues and office complexes. We are now all used to seeing curb cuts, handicapped parking spaces and automatic doors to provide easier access to public places. But what happens when a disabled or wheelchair bound person gets inside a building or medical facility that is not ADA compliant? Often a simple act of opening a door becomes a hardship for those with limited mobility. Thanks to a revolutionary new product offered by Rehabmart called the Doormatic Auto Door Opener, doors located inside a building need no longer be an obstacle to the disabled.

Developed by Drive Medical Design and Manufacturing, the Doormatic Automatic Door Opener is a new product that will soon find its way into medical facilities, offices, nursing homes and private residences. With its simple yet sophisticated design, anyone can install the Doormatic Door Opener because there are no tools required and no need for structural changes or surface preparation to the door. The user simply attaches the product to the base of the door with Velcro® and it's ready to use. Because it is battery-operated, there is no need to involve an electrician to make it operational.

A slight push or pull on the door is enough to trigger the opening and closing door mechanism. For those who are not able to touch the door, an optional remote control is available that will trigger the door to open or close. A motion sensor can also be installed on the door which is activated by an infrared beam and will activate the door as needed.  For added safety, an obstacle detection sensor is included that will prevent injuries and stop the door from closing when someone or something is near the door. Easy to follow instructions will allow simple adjustments to customize waiting time and speed settings to the door.

Although the Doormatic Automatic Door opener will have the most obvious application for the disabled, there are a variety of people who can benefit from this innovative product. One need only imagine the many uses for an indoor automatic door. Office workers with armloads of papers, medical staff transporting patients, daycare workers carrying babies in their arms, and even someone doing loads of laundry at home could all benefit from this product. The many uses for the Doormatic Automatic Door opener are as limitless as the imagination. Come to think of it, who wouldn't want their own personal doorman waiting to make life easier for them in this busy, multi-tasking world we live in?
