In long-term health facilities where health professionals have a lot of physical patient interaction, both patient safety and the physical health of the caregivers is paramount in the thoughts and minds of the medical staff.  Many patients in nursing homes or adult-care facilities need assistance from standing up from a chair, sofa, or wheelchair, to be transferred to another setting. For a medical caregiver, lifting up a patient from a chair or side of a bed and 'walking' a patient around to sit into a wheelchair or another seat is much like a dance, except with the caregiver leading the dance while at the same time supporting the weight of the patient.

This move is done many times by a medical caregiver during a daily work shift.  Even though some patients may have the use of, and some strength in their arms and legs to help the transfer process, the caregiver still takes on the task of making sure the patient is in a safe and secure grip while all the time pivoting their feet and lifting, twisting, and seating the patient.  Sometimes patients, especially older patients, may have skin or body ailments which limit the ability of the caretaker to safely grasp the patient, increasing the probability of a fall and injury.

From library.rehabmart.comRehabmart offers a safer way to allow an assisted transfer from one seated position to another with the HealthCraft Revo Patient Turner, an upright and portable patient transfer device.  This caregiver-assisted transfer device assists both the caregiver and the patient while they help each other in the transfer exchange.  The Revo™ Patient Turner is easily placed in front of the chair where the patient is sitting.  After the caregiver simply steps on the brake pedal to engage the locking mechanism which prevents the disc from rotating, the patient then places his or her feet on the disc, grabs the hand bars, and with the caregiver pulling up on the hand bars the patient can pull his- or herself into a standing position.  Once standing straight up, the caregiver will then disengage the brake, rotate the patient on the revolving disc to the front of the next sitting surface.  The caregiver will then reengage the locking mechanism and while holding onto the handrail, assist the patient in sitting down.

Because the REVO™ Patient Turner is a popular tool for medical facilities, it is outfitted with superior quality fittings to take on the wear-and-tear of repeated use within the facility.  From the alloy steel knobs which will not crack or shatter from everyday impacts or excessive use, to the heavy-duty high quality ball bearings which create a consistent and level weight-bearing surface for a smooth and safe patient transfer, the REVO™ is specifically designed to be tough and durable for many years to come.

Because safety is the most important aspect of a patient transfer; the REVO™ Patient Turner can be quickly and easily fitted for users and caregivers of all heights.  The non-latex comfort grips are height adjustable from 30 to 43 inches and the height and width adjustable knee pads can be quickly modified to comfortably suit virtually any patient or user for the most optimal support and security.  Additionally, the anti-slip foot pads will ensure years of rigorous and safe use.

Although the rib reinforced steel base is safe and sturdy, ensuring years of service, the REVO™ Patient Turner is lightweight and portable.  Simply tilt and roll the patient turner for easy and convenient transport. Once placed in the upright patient transfer position, the portage wheels will automatically disengage from the floor.  While it is lightweight in stature, it has a patient weight capacity of a heavy-duty 350 pounds.

The risk of falling and injuring both the patient and caregiver while performing a daily procedure is too great NOT to have a REVO™ Patient Turner.  There are many variables which can cause an unsafe patient transfer with the 'hands on' method of lifting.  Having the option to use a caregiver-patient transfer tool that will decrease the worry and fear of damaging falls is a big plus within all health care facilities and at home.  The ease and comfort in using an REVO™ Patient Turner can transform a daily accident-possible task into a more pleasant and healthy experience for both the caregiver and patient alike.
