Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) are mobile devices that function as personal information managers. Also known as a personal data assistant, or a palmtop computer, a typical PDA offers a calendar, an address book, a to-do list, and some sort of note or memo program. While universal design is relevant to PDAs as well as other technology, helping to create a viable solution for differently-abled users, it has yet to be consistently applied into the design of most popular PDA devices. But now, people with low vision or blindness challenges can enjoy all the benefits of a PDA with the revolutionary TapMemo Voice Activated PDA available at Rehabmart.

Simplicity was the key ingredient in the development and design of the TapMemo PDA. It has only one button to perform multiple functions, and two volume buttons. This PDA is "speaker independent", which means you do not need to train it to your voice; you can start using it the moment you take it out of the box due to TapMemo's cutting edge speaker independent recognition technology. The feature-rich TapMemo is powered from a very strong internal lithium-ion based battery which typically only needs to be charged once a week, simply by connecting the included charging jack. Fully charged in less than four hours, this special battery never needs to be changed and can supply more than ten working hours, and more than eleven months in 'standby' mode between each charging cycle.

This voice activated PDA features a memo pad that can store up to thirty one minute memos, which can each be given a name to be called back up. You can scroll back and forth through the memos by sound, with the ability to delete a single memo, or all of the memos that have been stored. The phone book feature can contain up to sixty entries, with each entry containing up to forty-eight digits and seven seconds of voice recording for additional data. You can actually dial a certain number by placing the PDA next to a telephone handset, as the device will emit DTMF tones corresponding to the number and the phone will dial them without having to press any buttons.

Additional highlights include a calendar that can store up to thirty appointments, with reminders. Again, each appointment is given a name that can be played back chronologically, or can be found by scrolling back and forth, and you can delete a single appointment, or all of the appointments that have been stored. An alarm clock which features a progressive wake-up mechanism of gradually increasing volume is also included in this PDA, along with talking time and date as two separate commands. A locking command enables you to lock the device against unwanted use and helps you protect your personal information that is stored in it. When the battery is getting low, it will give you a low level warning, and if you forget where you left the TapMemo, whistling will make the unit speak a high volume short phrase to help you locate it.

Simplicity in the design of the TapMemo Voice Activated PDA translates to simplicity of use. Even though universal design, the concept of designing all products and environments to be inherently accessible to people with and without disabilities, may not yet have extended very far into the world of PDAs and smartphones, the TapMemo was designed specifically for people with low vision and blindness disabilities. Introduce a whole new world of personal management and connection with this exciting new device from Rehabmart.
