When the subject of walking aids comes up, most people would picture a utilitarian walker made of nondescript metal tubing. Perhaps it would have wheels, or the front legs might have tennis balls to keep it from being pushed too quickly. Maybe a bag would hang from the top cross piece to keep the user’s personal effects handy. While practical, the majority of walkers just don’t have much personality or versatility.
The good news is that Rehabmart carries Gemino Rollators, a line of mobility aids specifically developed with style, versatility and comfort in mind. Their design won the winner of red dot - best of the best 2011 and iF product design award 2011. Both adult and pediatric sizes are designed to fold easily, provide a comfortable seat for resting, are easy to clean and sport bags with functional pockets in colors that coordinate with the frame.
While the Gemino 30S is designated as a pediatric model, it can support users up to 5 feet, 5 inches, and weighing up to 275 pounds. The Gemino Rolling Walker comes in two sizes: 30M can be adjusted to accommodate users up to 5 feet, 7 inches, and 286 pounds, and the 30 supports users from 4 feet, 11 inches, to 6 feet, 7 inches, and up to 330 pounds.

The frames are easily adjusted without tools. Simply pull out the handles, adjust the height, and push them back in to lock them into place. On both models, hand grips control a braking system with a block-style mechanism, making them easy to operate for even the weakest hands. Both models feature tipping bars to allow for easier navigation over curbs and thresholds, and side deflectors to reduce the risk of running into furniture, doors, and walls as they prevent the rear wheels from catching on them. A range of special and standard accessories to support users in their daily activities are available. Options include trays, holders for umbrellas, canes, crutches, and oxygen, as well as IV poles and light assemblies for walking at night.
While the Gemino 30S and the Gemino Rolling Walker have much in common design-wise, the Rolling Walker features comfortable arm rests that provide support in an upright position to ensure proper positioning and posture while gait training as part of rehab. The forearm supports have built-in handbrakes and steering, making turns and stops a breeze.
The 30S is suitable for children and young or smaller adults who need help with balance due to neuromuscular and musculoskeletal conditions, balance disorders, and some developmental delays that impact balance. The Gemino can be used as part of a rehab program or for daily use in both private homes or in long-term care facilities.
The Rolling Walker is better suited for adults who need gait training as part of rehab due to issues such as strokes, neurological or musculoskeletal conditions, weakness related to aging, or injuries or surgery. It can be used at rehab centers, long-term care facilities, and private residences.
In addition to helping with balance, both Gemino models assist in enhancing independence and the benefits to self esteem that come with it.
