Learning is Fun for Pre-Schoolers!
When my sisters visited recently, we enjoyed many spirited discussions about toys we loved when we were children. Our favorites included many of the old children's musical albums and records we listened to over and over back then. We all realized how much these fun songs helped us to learn so much before we ever went to school. Being read stories, and looking at picture books also helped us to develop a lifelong love for reading, and we all knew the alphabet and how to read simple sentences and signs way before we entered kindergarten.
Whether your child has special needs or not, every child can benefit from being better prepared for school and Rehabmart has some wonderful learning tools to encourage your child to learn some basics before she ever steps into a real classroom.
The Get Set For School workbook is a "crayon only" book for pre-schoolers developed by the fabulous Handwriting Without Tears company who produces learning programs and products for children of all ages and abilities. This is not your average coloring book, this is a very creative and interactive workbook designed specifically for pre-school age children to help instill the idea that learning is FUN.
Kids learn colors and how to recognize shapes, while also being instructed on how to hold the crayon correctly. This book also uses a developmental sequence for learning pre-strokes, letters and numbers. The large and bold illustrations are easy and fun to color and greatly appeal to very young children, which encourages questions and discussion.
Another really fun product from this same company is the Get Set for School Sing Along CD; Handwriting Without Tears with Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer. This CD is full of delightful songs that children will adore because they learn specific movements and finger-plays to go along with the tunes.
Learning the alphabet is so much fun when a dog sings along! Numbers are easy to learn when your child sings along about counting legs of different creatures! This CD promotes development of body awareness, motor skills, language and counting skills as your child moves and sings along with these memorable tunes they'll want to hear over and over.
Rehabmart also offers some fun and helpful tools for your hearing-impaired pre-schooler as well. Help teach your children American Sign Language (ASL) with the Welcome to School, Singing Time! DVD. Your child will join characters Alex and Leah for a day at school as he learns the signs and songs about things to do and see in the classroom.
This 30 minute interactive DVD includes special features and ASL tips along with teaching your hearing-impaired child all the signs they will need to know when they go to school, including words such as crayons, paper, glue and scissors and phrases such as 'line up', 'pay attention', 'rest' and 'quiet'.
Another great learning tool for hearing-impaired kids is the Electronic Book - School Days: An ASL Word Book available from Rehabmart. This works on your computer and is very simple to use by just clicking to turn each page.
This fun little electronic book teaches your pre-schooler 76 basic signs she will need to know when she enters school. Each page shows the sign in both video and with a picture. The English equivalents in both print and audio, along with concept graphics are all included.
Inspiring your child to learn has never been so easy, technology has come a very long way since I was a little girl. Yet the acting out of songs and the fun of learning how to read has never gone out of style as the wide array of interactive learning tools available from Rehabmart demonstrates. Instill a love of learning in your pre-school children with these fun products and you and your children will reap the benefits forever. Then, they too will be sitting around in their middle age fondly reminiscing about their favorite childhood toys!
