Nebulizers can be Life Savers
If you have any type of breathing difficulties due to allergies or asthma, then you already know that nebulizers can be life savers. Whether you are an adult that needs the device or using one on a small child, it has probably saved more than one visit to the emergency room. If you have to lease or rent a machine, it can be a precious waste of time and money.
Nebulizers for Airway Swelling in Adults
Personally, I have a mild case of asthma. On the average day, it does not bother me too much. But, if I get a compounding illness like a cold or the flu, the doctor prescribes medicine for the nebulizer. It makes the difference between taking labored short breaths and being miserable, and being able to breathe deeply without coughing for a half hour afterward.
The first time I had to use a nebulizer, I thought I was going to have to rent a machine from the local medical supply store. But, I soon learned this was not the wisest course of action. However, it was quickly recommended that I simply purchase the device and submit the cost to my insurance. The advice may be some of the best I have ever received.
Why? Once you have been diagnosed with an illness or allergy that will require the use of a nebulizer, even if it is only occasionally, you are bound to need the nebulizer again in the future. When you already do not feel well, you do not want to have to go looking for a device to rent or borrow from a friend. Your life could depend on it.
Nebulizers Save Children
For example, when my nephew was small, he had horrible asthma attacks. He was hospitalized more than once. He definitely did not have a mild case. When he started coughing and having trouble breathing, searching for a nebulizer would have wasted precious minutes. Fortunately, my sister had a nebulizer and a ready supply of the medication he needed to reopen his lungs, giving him that much needed air.
Long before I was ever diagnosed with breathing problems, I would go to visit my sister and hear her baby trying to breath, with that croupy sound in his chest. He had to use the nebulizer so often, he did not even fidget. Although he was under the age of 2, he had already learned that the nebulizer made him feel so much better.
So, why am I telling you this? The answer is simply. As our atmosphere is becoming more polluted, the incidents of people with allergies, asthma, and the subsequent airway swelling are on the rise. If you or your child has ever gotten sick and needed a nebulizer treatment in the past, there is a good chance you will need one sometime in the future. Forget renting or borrowing a machine. Having a nebulizer in your home, ready for use, can be a life saver.
