On-the-job back injuries are expensive propositions. They are the reason for 25% of all workers’ comp claims filed and are responsible for up to 50% of the costs, making them the number one cost of payouts. While other reasons for filing claims have dropped, back injuries haven’t done so in years. Away from the job, some 30% of adults endure lower back pain caused by lack of exercise, poor posture, or injury or overwork while engaging in recreational activities, exercise, or performing household chores.

The best cure for lower back injuries is prevention through strength and flexibility training and by observing proper body mechanics. To help with the latter, Rehabmart carries the Back-A-Line Dynamic Lower Back Support. Unlike older model back supports which are made from wide bands of elastic material, the Back-A-Line is made from a non-stretchy material to support the lumbar region with a patented firm curved pad that supports the spine in the neutral position while stimulating the muscles. The curved pad helps to reorient the muscle tissues through the process of proprioceptive feedback, encouraging them to adjust their positioning behaviorally rather than relying on the conscious efforts of the user. In time, it triggers the abdominal and trunk muscles into working while strengthening the back, reducing pain and fatigue.  A University of Miami (Ohio) study of Back-A-Line credited its proprioceptive feedback with keeping the subjects’ spines safely aligned.

Two other peer-reviewed university studies confirmed the results of Miami’s study as did 40 other independent evaluations including one performed by the US Army. Users reported significant reductions in lower back pain and fatigue as well as back injuries. It also received positive reviews in Motorcycle Consumer News for helping keep riders comfortable on long trips.

The Back-A-Line comes in three models: the original heavy-duty version in a breathable, washable fabric with a sweat-resistant wick-away lining; the heavy-duty, leather-like version that weighs only 12 ounces; and the model with BIOflex circle magnets configured to provide pain relief for discomfort caused by prior injuries while preventing new ones through its dynamic support system. Sizing is based on waist measurements ranging from small at 27 inches to double extra-large at 48 inches.

While it can be a tremendous help to most people, about five percent of the population who live with conditions such as scoliosis, kyphotic posture, or who have had a spinal fusion will not be able to conform their spines to the pad’s curve comfortably. For the vast majority of people, the Back-A-Line will give them relief from chronic or acute back pain and can help prevent more injuries.

In addition to construction site, industrial, and warehouse injury prevention, the Back-A-Line is suitable for use by gardeners, hikers, motorcyclists, drivers, golfers, anyone doing home maintenance tasks such as yard work or cleaning, or for office jobs, retail sales associates and for anyone engaged in fitness activities such as weightlifting or aerobics.

In other words, the Back-A-Line is perfect for nearly anyone who has a back and wants to treat or prevent an injury!
