Side Access or Walk-in Bathing Systems are Safety and Comfort Combined
 From library.rehabmart.com
Do you have trouble getting in and out of the shower or bathtub? Do you have a reasonable fear of falling or slipping back into the tub, and suffering a major injury? If you have any trouble with your balance, dizziness, or a disability that hinders your mobility, the simple act of getting clean can be risky business. But, bathing does not have to be a heroic venture.  Side access or walk-in bathing systems are safety and comfort combined.

Safety

If you have trouble bathing safely, you need to check out the side access bathing systems available. Imagine being able to open a door, grab a hand rail, and sit down in a comfortable seat, to take your shower! No more worries about slipping in the bathroom.

As an individual in a wheelchair, I absolutely love this concept. I used to love soaking in a hot bath, especially in the winter. The water seemed to make all the aches and pains go away for a while. However, I do not remember the last time I was able to sink into fragrant bath oils and melt the day's cares away.

But, because of difficulties transferring from my chair to the tub, I cannot even consider getting into a hot tub of water. Even if I manage to get in, how do I get back out? The danger of falling back into the tub, sustaining injury, and not being able to get help is not worth the risk.

Comfort

If you can identify, you should consider a side access bathing system. Then, you have options once again. You can make the bathing process quick and efficient, in a safe environment. Alternatively, you can fill the system with comforting waters and soak your weary bones. Plus, many systems have whirlpool capability. If you have never had swirling warm water massaging your body, you are in for a real treat.

In fact, bathing can be such a pleasure again, that you may need to have 2 bathrooms, if you do not live alone. You may never want to get back on dry land, so to speak.

Medical Necessity?

Of course, if you are on a limited income, you may be asking how you can afford to renovate your bathroom to accommodate such a wonderful innovation. Well, it may be time to pay your doctor a visit. If you have health issues that would benefit from the ability to have a whirlpool soak, you may be able to get paperwork together to get financial aid for a medical necessity through Medicare or Medicaid.

Initially, side access bathing systems may seem like an extravagance. On the contrary! If you have illnesses or disease that cause you constant pain and discomfort, this option may be a cost saving alternative to some types of physical therapy treatments. In essence, this is an answer to safety and comfort while bathing. It can also mean the difference between living independently and moving to an assisted living facility.

So, side access bathing systems are much more than an innovative luxury. The health and safety benefits far outweigh the cost of renovations. It can also make it possible for you to continue to live independently, in more comfort.
