Simply put, SPIO Pants™ are a form of specialized compression garments for special needs children. SPIO Pants Compression Garments or (Stabilizing Pressure Input Orthosis) Pants™ have come a long way since first being made in the home of seamstress Cheryl Allen for her two special needs children back in the 1980's. Her brainchild has become available to us worldwide as this ingenious product is now patented and commercially manufactured.
 
SPIO Pants™ are designed to provide sensory comfort and to aid in stability for children who have trouble maintaining proper gait, posture or who have lower body weakness. Both low muscle tone and spasicity as well as a number of congenital conditions and deformities seem to respond remarkably to this unique form of compression therapy. The lightweight, breathable fabric is made of a lycra-like material and designed to improve and enhance deep pressure sensory input, yet be comfortable enough to wear all day and light enough to fit underneath your child's regular clothing. SPIO Pants™ have been shown to be effective for kids of all ages....they can even be ordered with a larger 'back' to accommodate diapers! The unique lycra-like material is comfortable, breathable and provides multi-directional stretch and strong rebound for compression. Durability, flexibility and functionality are also incorporated into the design of this unique fabric which allows for a proper fit with an up to 25% growth capacity. These two features alone promise that any SPIO garment should last for years.

Many children who have sensory issues, developmental delays or motor/muscular instability issues such as those common in Down's Syndrome, cerebral palsy and other developmental or congenital disorders have found remarkable comfort, support and stability through the use of these garments.
