Three Reasons Why You Need a Portable Wheelchair Ramp
If you have mobility issues and use a wheelchair, once in a while or all of the time, I have 3 reasons why you need a portable wheelchair ramp. I can honestly say I know what challenges you face every day. The information you are about to read is based upon my own personal experiences.
In a perfect world, people would not have to use wheelchairs. In an almost-perfect world, anywhere you and I want to go would be handicapped accessible. Unfortunately, most days present at least one challenge to mobility, when it comes to getting around in a wheelchair. So, if someone is smart enough to create devices to make life a little easier-go for it! It is one thing to be independent, but save your energy for more important challenges.
The Dreaded Threshold
Have you even gone up the ramp of a handicapped accessible building only to be confronted by the dreaded threshold? How insane! For example, my local medical supplies store has a ramp, but then there is that frustrating barrier to the front door. I have to turn my wheelchair backwards or ram it at an angle to seek help for my disability. The question is: why doesn't a business like that use a simple and portable threshold ramp to help their patrons out. Oh yeah! It will work at your house too!
The Non-Compliant Curb
Yes, I know there is a law that all public buildings have to be accessible to the disabled. But, they do not always specify exactly how people must comply. How many times have you tried to go to a business and found the curb cut half a mile away? Okay, I exaggerate! But, it is exhausting to roll around in a wheelchair all day. So, a portable curb ramp is a great solution. It folds up in your car, and you can pull it out, set it up, and go straight to the door. Forget having to go down the block.
The Company Deterrent
I have teased my family members that they have stairs into their homes simply so I cannot visit. Not true. But, the cost of renovating their homes to accommodate a wheelchair is not in the family budget. I have spent more than one holiday at home because I could not join the party, without having someone carry me up the stairs. (I refuse to be responsible for someone's hernia!) However, with a portable, foldable wheelchair ramp, I do not have to miss special occasions or family gatherings.
Portable wheelchair ramps come in various widths, lengths, and strengths to traverse most stoops and steps, whether you have lightweight wheels or an electric wheelchair with a huge motor. Now, I no longer have to miss Thanksgiving dinner. In fact, the ramps are so sturdy, many people who are wheelchair bound find the portable ramp an affordable alternative to permanent ramp construction.
So, now you know the 3 reasons why I really appreciate portable wheelchair ramps. If you can relate, please make your life a little easier. Being in a wheelchair already has enough demands on your time and energy. If you want more challenges, save them for something fun. Use the ramps.
