Rehabmart.com, an online e-commerce company that sells rehabilitation and medical supplies, has joined into a distribution partnership with Trionic to offer their Veloped, an all-terrain walker-rollator, to a wider consumer audience. Swedish engineers Stefan Kindberg and Johan Kuikka first came in contact with the typical rollator in 2004, and were surprised by the large number of people they met who were using this device. With their 25 years of experience with bicycle design and bike racing, they wondered why the rollator design hadn't changed much from its original design by Bernt Leander thirty years earlier, because while the rollator performs wonderfully on smooth surfaces and indoors, it doesn't do well on uneven surfaces. In conjunction with the Royal Technical Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, they decided to innovate and update the rollator by creating a completely new type of product, which ultimately resulted in the Veloped. Literally defined as "fast-footed", the Veloped offers the same walking support as a rollator, but comes with some amazing innovations that offer much improved comfort and greater outdoor access.
The award-winning Veloped design from Trionic provides several unique features that set it apart from walkers and rollators including its patented climbing wheel, three wheels and comfortable air-filled tires. It can climb curbs and other obstacles with safety and ease, and gives a comfortable ride over uneven surfaces such as cobblestones, gravel, grass, snow and off-road trails. The clever climbing wheel technology greatly increases the Veloped's ability to overcome all kinds of obstacles by spreading the load over two wheels, slightly displaced lengthwise, dividing the climbing sequence into two steps. Enhancing the climbing capacity even more is an angled link arm that uses the pushing force provided by the user, enabling users to climb pretty high obstacles, such as a big rock or higher curb. The pivoting link arm also provides suspension and constant pivoting abilities to offer the smoothest, most comfortable outdoor walking experience.
The special three-wheel design helps to keep the Veloped in permanent ground contact on all uneven surfaces and the rising and spinning wheels of 'shopping cart syndrome' are effectively avoided. Dual adjustability lets the user adapt quickly and easily to changes in environment and terrain. City-mode offers easier turning and maneuvering abilities, with the front wheel lifted, creating retained climbing capacity. All-terrain mode provides suspension, climbing ability and increased direction stability, making it perfect for a hike, golf course or workout. The Veloped even folds away at a touch of a button for easier transport, and for rolling through narrow passageways. "We are thrilled to introduce these amazing Velopeds from Trionic to more consumers," said Hulet Smith. "Velopeds provide a fun and easy way for everyone to get some exercise, no matter what age or physical shape they are in. If you find yourself avoiding the great outdoors because of stability and balance issues, the Trionic Veloped is the perfect choice for you."
