In the beginning, exam tables were simple affairs consisting of a flat surface, and, if the patient was lucky, a little padding. As they evolved, they were built with features such as adjustable back rests and holes to accommodate the face/head if someone should need treatment in the prone position.
The new generation of exam tables are designed to offer more positioning options than simply flexing up, down or laterally, and some are even electrically assisted, making the positioning process for treatment less of a strain for both the healthcare provider and the patient. One example of this new generation of treatment tables is the Eurotech Electric Flexion Table available from Rehabmart.
This ergonomically-designed table provides convenience for the practitioner and enhanced comfort for the patient. The Electric Flexion Table comes standard with rear lateral flexion, but optional front flexion and lateral rotation are available. Other standard features include SST straps; handlebars; an extension and flexion headpiece; adjustable face cushions; comfort cushions for each area of the body; adjustable ankle extensions; a breakaway abdominal section; a flexion timer; a flexion handle for rear flexion; a variable speed control; and a paper roll with cutter and guide bar.
Each table is built to order, and even more features may be added to meet the healthcare professional's unique needs. Other options to help with patient positioning include a toggle headpiece; cervical drops with or without cervical distraction; a long axis distraction; and optional thoracic and lumbar drops with or without a table extension. The table may be ordered with up to three air drops and optional elevation to adjust its height.
A 115-volt motor operates the table and an optional voltage converter is additionally available. The table length is 65 inches and it may be extended to 75 inches, while it may also be ordered to measure from 21 to 26 inches in height from the floor to the top of the cushions. The frame and base system are made of double strength metal with a durable powder-coated black finish to accommodate patients in a wide range of heights and weights. The cushions come in a choice of standard or optional extra firmness with durable, easy-to-clean, leather-like vinyl upholstery in a choice of ten attractive colors that warm up to the patient’s body temperature quickly, enhancing comfort.
The Eurotech Tables were incorporated more than ten years ago by Dr. Gary Huddleston, D.C., a certified rehab specialist, medical inventor and manufacturer. He is able to clinically test and approve his designs before they go into production and become available to healthcare providers. His many clients include NASCAR and motorcycle racers, players from the NFL, and professional golfers and wrestlers. Dr. Huddleston’s popular designs have appeared at trade shows for chiropractors and athletic trainers.
Not only are these tables suitable for treating professional athletes and racers, they are also appropriate and ideal for chiropractic, osteopathic, and orthopedic clinics; rehab centers; and physical therapy practices. They may be used anywhere an adjustment is needed to relieve discomfort and enhance the quality of life.
