Work Therapy Tables for Wheelchair Patients
For many people, a therapy table is the comfort of a food-laden Thanksgiving table surrounded by family and friends, but for many medical professionals it is a very useful fixture in a rehabilitation program. And even more specific are therapy work tables that can comfortably fit people seated in wheelchairs.
Most wheelchair accessible tables include an option for adjusting the height of the table to help make the wheelchair patient most comfortable. Therapy work tables come in various shapes and sizes, square, rectangular, or horseshoe, for either one person or a therapy group.
Therapy work tables can be used to assist and enhance occupational, orthopedic, speech, and neurological rehabilitations and other therapies. Often rehab work tables are used to help build dexterity and coordination by various exercises to help the patient either relearn or master fine motor skills to improve functional daily tasks such are eating, dressing, self personal care, bathing and being able to return to a job or homemaking.
Rehabmart carries a large selection of therapy and rehabilitation work tables but we will be referring to therapy tables specifically made to assist wheelchair patients with the most assessable and comfortable rehabilitation experience.
The first example of a wheelchair sized therapy work table is the
Wheelchair Accessible Personal Activity Table. This multi-purpose wheelchair accessible table has a one inch thick natural oak high pressure laminate top with a durable 3mm PVC edging and is ideal for work, therapy, rehabilitation activity or play therapy. The hand control knob located on each table leg allows one inch adjustments from a height of 26 inches to 34 inches.
The
U-Shaped Table by Clinton is a height adjustable table which allows a four wheelchair access. The all-laminate top table has height adjustable legs with self indexing, spring loaded plungers with easy to read number height indicator strips which means that there are no bothersome holes to line up when adjusting the leg height.
The Hausmann
Horseshoe Therapy Table can also accommodate up to four wheelchair patients. This durable white leather high pressure laminate is only 18 inches deep for easy therapist/patient access and has a 36 inch wide by 30 inch deep inside space for the therapist. The five adjustable metal legs have a hand control knob on each leg.
Another type of therapy table is the
ReversABLE Activity/Hand Therapy Table . This quarter-round designed table can accommodate two seated or two wheelchair patients. The hand therapy table has two 16 by 16 inch, 360-degree rotating pegboard inserts which can be locked in a horizontal position or at a 60-degree angle. The inserts have the oak pegboard on one side and a smooth laminate surface on the reverse side and each pegboard's inserts have eighty-one peg holes and eight-one assorted colored plastic pegs. The easy-to-grip plastic pegs are stackable and ideal for hand therapy and cognitive activities. The five adjustable metal legs have a hand control knob on each leg, allowing table height adjustments from 26 inches to 34 inches.
The Hausmann
Deluxe Crank Butcher Block Work Table has a premium 1 ¾ inch thick butcher block top and a convenient retractable hand crank gear table height adjustment from 26 inches to 38 inches. This table has a heavy gauge steel frame with a powder coated finish with a weight capacity of 300 pounds.
Our last example is the Hausmann
Powermatic Work Table with a hand-controlled electrical power height adjustment from 27 inches to 39 inches. This wheelchair accessible table is made with heavy duty, natural oak high pressure laminate and can accommodate up to four patients.
Unlike most tables that seem to be either too low or too high or have table legs in awkward positions for wheelchair patients, these therapeutic work tables are specifically designed for patients sitting in wheelchairs. Rehabilitation is challenging enough for many people, and having a sturdy table with the correct height and accessibility for wheelchair patients to receive the full therapy treatment in a comfortable position is paramount in the therapy session and recovery. Rehabmart can assist the therapist or healthcare facility in finding the right table for the many different types of work therapy patients.
