This past month was Huntington's Disease Awareness Month to bring into awareness and to help educate about the impact of Huntington’s disease. Today there are at least 30,000 symptomatic Americans with Huntington’s disease and another 200,000 or more who are at risk of inheriting the disease.

Huntington’s disease is a deadly genetic disorder that causes a continuous breakdown of the nerve cells located within the brain. HD can deteriorate an individual’s mental and physical abilities during their prime working years. As of this writing, there is no cure for Huntington’s disease.

The Huntington’s Disease Society of America recognizes BRODA chairs as a solution to assist HD individuals with seating needs by providing them with safety and comfort in seating and transportation, particularly the BRODA 785 Elite Tilt Recliner with the Huntington’s Special Padding.

The Elite 785 has been crash tested, providing security and durability for its user by allowing secure, comfortable and simple transport that allows the user to stay in the chair during transport. With the user staying in one chair during transports to and from medical clinics and home, the amount of patient transfers, and discomfort for the user, has been greatly reduced, leading to improved breathing, posture, and overall comfort. The standard HD padding for the Elite 785 Tilt Recliner includes a neck-rest pad, shoulder bolsters, upper and lower side pads, seat and back pads with choices of covers, and calf and sole pads.

Rehabmart is always striving to advance in the many areas of business so that our customers receive the absolute best care and assistance possible. One of the innovative ways Rehabmart is working to create a better environment for customer interaction included a recent office-wide, day-long session for our employees with Dr. Nita Matthews-Morgan, the co-founder of ‘Learn Your Brain’, a company that helps teams and individuals develop the mental programming necessary for peak performance.

Rehabmart employees, as well as the co-founders of Rehabmart, Hulet Smith and Mike Price, participated in an all-day learning session on how to create individual reality by learning how to create new results and to do the best they know how to do. The class helped the Rehabmart staff to better understand tools on how to work and live a better life more full of joy, and to help to nurture the mind, body, and spirit to create the best way to reach their potential.

The session encouraged the staff of Rehabmart to create Rehabmart’s Core Values to better promote and assist customer relationships and to improve teamwork.

The Rehabmart Core Values are:

Team culture pitch in
Openly accept instructive training
Focus on dong your own job well first
Pursue growth and learning everyday
Be happy and encourage fun
Own your mistakes and successes
Document and share your knowledge

These core values will help establish a better working understanding on teamwork, productivity, establishing values, growth goals, and a vision for Rehabmart’s future. All of which will boost customer satisfaction and comfort in knowing that Rehabmart is in the business of helping.

Rehabmart $25,000 Scholarship Fund

Rehabmart has just completed its first round of college scholarship funds for students with a disability, students majoring in health sciences, or students majoring in special needs education.

The first 15 Rehabmart Scholarship Winners of 2016 have just been announced. To view the winners and their entries, please go to the Rehabmart.com $25,000 Scholarship Fund Winners page.

Our scholarship fund program is a new bi-annual program to help students achieve their educational goals. Helping the disabled student push past their physical or mental challenges to achieve their dreams has always been a personal satisfaction to both of our therapist founders, Hulet Smith and Mike Price. They both started this business to help those in need of assistance, as stated in Rehabmart’s motto, “Tools for the job of living”, and now they are taking it to the next step.

By providing some financial support to qualified students in the health sciences and special education fields, Rehabmart hopes that these individuals will then go on to more fully be able to help others with the knowledge that they have gained through their higher education. The long-term goals of our founders have always been to give back to the community, and to help more people, especially those with disabilities, to reach their personal, educational and career aspirations.

The response to our first scholarship award was incredible, making the judging a very difficult process. Each and every entry was individually read and judged, and many essays were both heartfelt and enlightening. We received over 400 applications for this first round, and are looking forward to the responses for our next scholarship deadline, which is October 31, 2106.
