Head Protection Helmets for Outside Summertime Fun!

"Summer afternoon - summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language."
                      - Henry James

For many children, the summer day beckons them to go outside, run around and just be silly.  Yet for some, it isn't as easy just running pell-mell out into the field of childhood dreams.  Some children and adults have to be careful of falling due to sensory and motor development delays, cerebral palsy, autism, seizure disorders or a number of other reasons for poor balance.

While the fear of falling and hurting one's self is a real concern, some comfort and security can be found in the protection of a helmet.  Helmets aren't just for soldiers and motorcyclists anymore, protective helmets are specifically designed for everyday living situations.  There are many different types and styles of protective helmets and Rehabmart does carry a wide and varied selection. The following three examples are soft- shell types of protection helmets.

Just about every infant and toddler will fall and bump their head a few times while learning to walk and the Thumper Bumpers is ideal protective head gear for infants and toddlers with sensory and motor development delays.  This lightweight machine-wash-and-dry helmet has seven strategically located padded segments, including a generous brow pad to protect head, forehead and temples from injury during controlled activities.

Available in two sizes, this protective hat is great at aiding in the early development of healthy helmet habits while also being a perfect introduction to helmet use for children who will require long-term head protection.  This compact and comfortable 100% preshrunk cotton hat with polyester padding will also fold easily for convenient storage.  And really, it does look pretty darn cute too.

For children or adults who may have balance problems, the Playmaker Headgear is a lightweight, breathable and comfortable head protection choice.  Made of closed cell EVA rubber foam surrounded by Lycra and with a Velcro chin strap, this protective headgear can be used during sports and other activities for children with balance problems, head/skull injuries or seizure disorders.

This protective helmet gives extra protection to the front and back of the skull while leaving the face area open for maximum peripheral vision.  Also since this protective headgear could be used for heavier activity, it is a good thing that it has a hand-washable design that helps prevent perspiration build-up and odors.

Another style of protection caps or helmets is the type that conforms and adapts to a persons head, regardless of size, shape, or shunt.  One such helmet is the ProtectaCap which has earned an unmatched 20-year reputation for safety effectiveness, non-compromising quality and amazing comfort.

The ProtectaCap is a compliance-friendly protective headgear that is made with materials engineered specifically for energy absorption from falls or head trauma.  The snug, virtually weightless fit is ideal with individuals who have weak neck muscles, cerebral palsy, balance disorders and autism.  Its full head coverage expands around ears for optimal hearing and ProtectaCap helmets are swimming pool safe and they float for poolside safety and aqua therapy.
So at the end of a summer day, everybody should be feeling relaxed and satisfied with their day's activities and enjoyment.  The child, now fast asleep from the day's activities and the mother, sitting back on the porch with a cold lemonade in her hand, thinking of the day's fun with everybody being outside, enjoying nature and the fresh air, playing safely in the yard and remembering the big sunny smiles on all the kids who were running around and just being silly.
